Epiphany Wine Co
2013 Elite Syrah
This robust, unique Syrah is sourced from four vineyards, Hampton Vineyard, Camp Four Vineyard and Colson Canyon Vineyard, all situated in the Santa Barbara AVA. The fourth vineyard is the esteemed Stagecoach Vineyard in the Napa Valley. The choice to blend fruits from two renowned viticultural areas in California is what makes the Elite unique, setting it apart from typical regional Syrahs. Each vineyard represents 25% of the fruit source of this barrel-aged wine. Prior to bottling a mere 94 cases in the spring of 2016, the Epiphany Elite spent just over two years in 100% new French oak Francois Freres barrels, giving it its rich, berry, spice-like quality.
The wine is a deep, opaque purple in the glass and the nose is of red stone fruit and berry, namely Black Cherry, Boysen and Blackberry. Hints of vanilla, pepper and baking spices accompany the rich nose, balanced by a woody, cedar, cigar box aroma. The mouth is both feminine and masculine, with a soft berry, vanilla quality grounded by grilled meat, tobacco, chocolate and bay leaf, which gives it a deep, rich finish.
