2015 Ashley's Chardonnay
Description
Named after Fess' daughter, Ashley, this chardonnay represents the best of the acclaimed Sta. Rita Hills growing region. The majority of the grapes come from a vineyard developed by the Parker family in 1996 situated only 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This hillside sites, sandy soils, persistent ocean breezes and fog make for a cold growing environment; the perfect scenario for chardonnay and pinot noir.
This wine shows pear, green apple, citrus, and lemon cream flavors complemented by attractive mineral notes with vanilla and toasty oak notes.
"...a beautiful, classic Chardonnay that offers loads of pleasure, in a vintage that’s all too often tart, bitter and charmless. Orchard fruits, buttered citrus and toasty/brioche-like nuances all emerge from this nicely textured Chardonnay that has bright acidity and a good finish." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
"Fresh aromas of salty lemon cream, wet slate and riverstones, as well as a touch of slightly sour yogurt, show on the nose of this bottling from the vineyard named after Fess Parker’s daughter, who now runs much of the company. The lively palate combines squeezes of citrus with a creamy mouthfeel that offers hints of nuts and orangesicle. It’s a very cohesive wine." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"Rich and well-sculpted, with plenty of acidity behind the green apple, ripe citrus and pear tart flavors. Melon and tropical fruit notes linger on the finish, showing plenty of spice. Drink now through 2022." ~ Wine Spectator
"...opens with lemon curd, white grapefruit and yuzu scents over suggestions of allspice, croissant and honeysuckle. The elegant, medium-bodied palate offers plenty of zesty citrus and spice layers, with a nice touch of silkiness and good length." ~ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"...another dense, rich wine that expresses the natural intensity of the year. Today, the Ashley's offers striking texture, but less in the way of aromatic nuance. It will be interesting to see if some of that develops with more time in bottle." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
