Fess Parker Winery
2015 Rodney's Vineyard Syrah
Santa Barbara County
"Rich black fruit meets with a touch of roasted lamb and rosemary on the classic nose of this Syrah, which was planted in 1989 as a memorial for Fess Parker's late son-in-law. The gamy qualities are much stronger on the sip, with charred lamb and more savory herbs, yet the backdrop is all boysenberry." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"...opens in the glass with a brooding bouquet of smoked meats, warm spices, ripe berry fruit and cocoa. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and chewy, carrying a hefty payload of tannin and extract, but with sufficient acidity and intensity of flavor that I wouldn't bet against it coming around with some time in the cellar." ~ Wine Advocate
Our estate vineyard, named in honor of Fess' late son-in-law, was planted in 1989 to predominantly traditional Rhone style varietals. The warm days and cool nighttime temperatures at this vineyard allow for a long growing season and, consequently, great maturity and flavor development in our grapes.
This Syrah is a rich, complex, full-bodied wine exhibiting layers of berry, cherry, cassis, clove, spice, earth, toast and smoke flavors. Enjoyable upon release, this wine will reward those with the patience to cellar it for 8-10 years. Enjoy!
