2017 Addendum Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
"One of the standouts, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District has a terrific sense of elegance and purity as well as medium to full-bodied richness, classy black cherry and blackberry fruits, plenty of spice and floral notes, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's going to drink nicely for 15 years or more." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
"...soft pleasant and easygoing, with no hard edges and fine balance. Dark fruit, mocha, spice and new leather all flesh out. The 2017 is not super complex, but it is also not marked by the aggressive tannins found in some of the other vineyard designates. The 2017, from the Clos du Val estate, is a fine debut." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
The Stags Leap District wine is our first foray into this acclaimed AVA. “A friend-of-a-friend” situation lead us to the Hirondelle vineyard owned by Stags Leap standout, Clos du Val. As luck would have it, we secured the one uncommitted block of Cabernet Sauvignon and away we went! This district is characterized by gravelly soils over a clay-like substructure along with stronger nightly cooling due to closer proximity to the San Pablo Bay. The resulting wines have been described as “textural hedonism”; wines full of flavor and intensity with a softer, elegant structure. The 2017 Addendum Stags Leap District absolutely delivers.
