2017 Colson Canyon Syrah
"...a wild, compelling wine that needs a bit of time in the glass to show everything it has to offer, which is plenty. Dried rose petal, iron, white pepper, licorice and earthy undertones give the Colson Canyon its distinctive profile. The 2017 exudes depth and character, qualities that become apparent as the wine starts to open. The Colson Canyon Syrah is one of the most distinctive wines in the Epiphany range." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
"Deep layers of violet, lilac and black currant are hit with a dusting of cocoa on the nose of this wine from a vineyard in a remote canyon north of the Santa Maria Valley. Thick tannins uphold flavors of roasted blackberry and black plum, with coffee and more cocoa coming through on the finish." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"...medium-bodied, elegant, outstanding wine from this estate. Giving up lots of dark berry fruits, cedary herbs, leather, and chocolate aromas and flavors, it’s not a blockbuster but just a balanced, elegant, classy Syrah to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years or more." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
Colson Canyon is a remote vineyard site located on the rugged hillsides of Santa Maria Valley’s eastern edge in northern Santa Barbara County. The combination of a 1,400-foot elevation and the vineyard’s rocky soil make the vines work harder to create small clusters that produce highly intense flavors. This syrah is dense and rich with flavors of dark fruits, dark chocolate and smoked meat.
From a rib eye roast to lamb chops, you can’t go wrong pairing this syrah with big flavorful foods.
