2017 Thompson GSM
"It’s not often that a GSM exhibits cool-climate character, but this bottling from a coveted vineyard in the Alisos Canyon area does just that. Aromas of muddled mulberry and cherry meet with green peppercorn and garam masala on the nose. The palate is herbal and peppery, showing orange peel and dried ginger against the roasted berry core." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"...is super-expressive and forward. Sweet floral accents, ripe red cherry, grilled herbs, kirsch and rose petal all grace this inviting, midweight Rhône blend. Lifted and perfumed in feel, with terriffc balance, the 2017 offers quite a bit of immediacy." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
"More spice, kirsch, nuts, and ground herbs notes emerge...a medium-bodied, nicely balanced 2017 with ripe tannins and impressive length. It’s reminiscent of a top Côtes du Rhône and ideal for drinking over the coming 4-6 years." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
This is a classic Côtes du Rhône blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The majority of this blend is made up of Grenache, adding red fruit flavors and cinnamon spice. Grenache tends to be higher in alcohol, which contributes to a long tingly finish. Mourvèdre enhances tannin structure and floral aromas while also contributing to a persistent finish. Last but certainly not least, Syrah adds boldness with darker fruit flavors of plum and blueberry while lending its savory nature to complete this blend.
