2014 Bien Nacido Vineyard Syrah
Located in the Santa Maria Valley, Bien Nacido Vineyard has become an iconic vineyard known for world class pinot noir and chardonnay. However, Bien Nacido also has the distinction of being the first California vineyard to plant cool-climate syrah. We are excited to introduce this into the Epiphany line-up. We aged this wine for 21 months in 100% French oak, of which 17% was new. While aging it developed a beautiful opaque purple color, arresting notes of blueberry, smoked meat, dried herbs, acacia flower, black pepper and baking spices are found aromatically. Dark fruit flavors abound on the palate with notes of dark chocolate, toast, iron and vanilla.
"The 2014 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard is terrific. Black fruits, pepper, gamey meats and a kiss of olive all emerge from this seamless, silky, beautifully concentrated and textured 2014 that just screams Bien Nacido Syrah! With nicely integrated acidity, polished tannin and a great finish, it will have 10-15 years of overall longevity." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
"This rich, dark take on the cool-climate vineyard delivers all the great Syrah components. Lavish cooked beef, fudge, loam and mint aromas accent its black currant and blueberry base. The palate is coated with soft, polished tannins that present savory beef and black currant flavors, steeped in peppercorn and lavender." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"one of the more nuanced wines in this lineup, although it too is done in a lush, ripe style that brings out the darker, more voluptuous side of Syrah. Raspberry jam, wild flowers and new leather all develop in the glass, with 25% whole clusters adding layers of complexity." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
