2017 Sanford & Benedict Chardonnay
"Tangerine, lime peel and stone notes open to dried hay, lemon meringue, pie crust, honeycomb and floral notions on the nose...The medium to full-bodied palate gives up lovely honeyed fruits with a creamy texture, tangy acidity and a long, layered finish." ~ Wine Advocate
"Light and bright aromas of lemon peel, Anjou pear and damp oak show on the nose of this single-vineyard expression. There is a tangy grip to the sip, where soft wood flavors meet with citrus flavors and are framed by a taut structure." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"Intense and focused, with concentrated flavors of apple pastry, quince tart and lemon bar, filled with a rich creaminess. Light smoky and flinty notes show on the minerally finish. Drink now through 2023." ~ Wine Spectator
Our single vineyard and small lot releases enable us to deliver some of our finest expressions of Chardonnay by concentrating on specific vineyards, clonal selections or techniques. In vintage 2017 we were fortunate to secure several tons of Chardonnay from one of the most historically significant vineyards in all of California, the iconic Sanford & Benedict.
Originally planted in 1971, this mature vineyard yields a wine that is beautifully structured with plenty of fresh acidity and verve. The palate offers lovely citrus and tropical fruit flavors backed by enticing minerality and a hint of toast.
