2018 Addendum Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon
When we decided to expand the Addendum program in 2017, finding a foothold in Stags Leap District was a high priority. It is one of the smallest AVAs occupying a small, narrow strip of valley floor against the eastern Vaca Mountain range, and sectioned off from the main valley by a range of small hills. The well-drained alluvial soils and cooling proximity to the San Pablo Bay (only 15 miles south), contribute to the alluring, acclaimed style of wines from this region.
We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with grapes from the Hirondelle Vineyard at the Clos du Val estate. The block of vineyard we work with is reasonably non-descript – pretty flat and just a stone’s throw from the Silverado Trail – but it gives us grapes that capture fruit driven, texturally pleasing wines for which Stags Leap is known. Jeb Dunnuck described our 2018 as having “full-bodied richness, a deep, layered texture and incredible elegance” as well as commenting it being “well worth seeking out”.
