"...a powerful, dark wine. Black cherry, licorice, spice, menthol and gravel lend considerable gravitas. There's plenty of tannic heft too, so readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a few years. The 2018 is an especially fine edition." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous
"Sanguine, meaty aromas meet with roasted red plum, incense and sage on the intense nose of this bottling. It’s rich and rugged on the palate in pleasing ways, with a roasted plum core that’s lifted by plenty of spice and herb tones." ~ Wine Enthusiast
"...medium-bodied and elegant, especially for Mourvèdre, and has some classic meatiness and spice as well as darker berry fruits. Nicely balanced, it’s slightly straightforward, yet I love its fruit and texture. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years or so." ~ Jeb Dunnuck
If you are a Cabernet Sauvignon fan, you would be missing out if you didn’t give Mourvèdre a try. This wine is a rustic full-bodied alternative originating from Spain. Black cherry and wild black raspberry are prominent on the nose, followed up by leather, scorched earth and vanilla with a hint of rose petal. Bold black cherry and plum flavors are complemented by wild thyme, cinnamon, vanilla and baking chocolate on the palate.
Pair this Mourvèdre with barbecue, pork shoulder or beef short ribs. For a vegetarian alternative, try a wild rice and shiitake / portobello mushroom based dish.
