Description

Our clonal selection of Pinot Noirs are made with the intent of isolating some of the very best individual lots in our cellar and capturing the nuances that each specific clone offers. This has remained a very small project - 14 barrels of each wine - and delivers some of our finest expressions of Pinot Noir.

The Pommard Clone is a darker, more brooding example of Pinot Noir. You will find cherry, forest floor, floral and even slightly smokey notes on the nose. The palate delivers nice structure with cherry, strawberry, cinnamon and dried herb flavors.

Wine Critic Reviews
"...gorgeous. The Pommard clone seems to work so well here in delivering a Pinot of real density and juiciness. Ripe black cherry, spice, hard candy and menthol are all kicked up a few notches in this decidedly exuberant Pinot." ~ Antonio Galloni's Vinous "...starts off with some baked cherry and mulberry fruits as well as some savory, earthy notes, yet it blossoms with time in the glass to show more floral and pretty nuances. Impeccably balanced on the palate, this medium-bodied, clean, lively, lengthy Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir will keep for 5-7 years." ~ Jeb Dunnuck "Refined, with lots of rich forest floor and underbrush notes to the cherry tart and dark currant flavors. Shows chocolate mousse accents on the spicy finish, with plenty of creaminess." ~ Wine Spectator "This clonal selection is very spicy on the nose, showing star anise and mace, as well as blackberry sorbet and plump, dark-strawberry aromas. The palate is very rich and oak-driven, with loads of barrel spice set against tart red fruit." ~ Wine Enthusiast
