2021 Addendum The Hills - Block 6 Cabernet Sauvignon
The first time we walked into Block 6 at The Hills vineyard in Rutherford, we were blown away. It is not your standard vineyard; it is frankly a little strange. The canopy was almost over our heads (and Blair Fox is not a short guy). And, it is pretty flat, not many “hills”. But as we walked among those old, sturdy, established vines, we started to get a sense that it might produce some pretty interesting grapes. The fact that all of this is in the heart of one of the most acclaimed AVAs, and owned and managed by the MacDonnell family (Round Pond winery) gave us confidence to move forward. We are very glad we did!
The wines from The Hills Block 6 display the renowned “Rutherford dust” character that we love so much, and harken back to the days of what we consider to be more classic Napa: structured, balanced wines that don’t need to be over-the-top, bombastic beasts to be enjoyed. Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck wrote about “herbs, cigar-wrapper and Asian spices” supporting dark fruit and called it an “impressive, balanced, age-worthy wine.” This should be great addition to your cellar!
